Open Posts Week Two

Time to start a new week and maybe do my own version of TW3. TW3 was a great informative news show from the 60s that was decades ahead of its time - That Was The Week That Was - TW3.

The Clinton administration is taking shape…oops…did I say Clinton? Obama! Just looks like Clinton since Obama has managed to dredge up those Clintonians who have not been indicted but just been in hibernation or whining about Florida in 2004. Eight years of Bush bashing but “W” certainly does supply an endless amount of material. Some much for “change.” I’m sure Cheney will pop up somewhere in the administration. Maybe as Surgeon General since he does have a wealth of medical information - especially treating hunting gunshot wounds and heart attacks.

The economy continues its downward slide and that has left the economist and both parties in a real state of flux. I’m sure that I expect some exotic type of bi-partisan voodoo ceremony to take place. Might as well as everyone has shown zero confidence in efforts to this point with the various indexes spiraling down another 20% after the Obama win. As HST said: “ Give me a one-handed economist! All my economists say, On the one hand on the other.” Next in line for the Corporate Welfare Queens is GM. Try this: “Get lost!”

Iraq is getting further and further off the front page as the stage this “war” appears to be in is one of pacification. Obama has already set his sites on Afghanistan since were are present and this will give the new Prez an opportunity to do some international muscle flexing, especially with those pesky Ruskies starting to arm up and raise a bit of a fuss. Nice to know he’ll bring that ’Hood Attitude to the table. I hope someone mentions to Medvelev that Germany is now unified and has not had a war for 60 or so years so it might be better to concentrate on getting oil back to $140 a pop.

In Lil’ old Mboro we have a new Fire chief so that is reason to go to the Central to celebrate. The casino is just muddling along with a CRAC (I think) report that had something to do with safety and ambulances. I’m sure I screwed that up but I’m not that enthusiastic about it. Besides if I want to know how and what to think about everything that is Mboro I’ll just peruse ( is that correct?) MR or BB’s blogs.

So, post away about any and all. Think about getting a set name to post with since anonymous may be one or ten folks.

Hey, Bozo, I was the original anonymous as Al Gore let me have that title when he invented the internet. I have proof at my summer home in Clark, Ct. My wife has applied for an ESL teaching job in Clark so we might live there year round.

I've given up on the economic news as it seems the last ten minutes of the day big gains and big losses take place. I won't even open my 401(k)statement. I've diversified and all it got was losses everywhere rather then in a few places.

Hal, what kind of bike do you have? I can see you sitting up on a Harley Soft tail Fat Boy with Bogo hanging on. LOL! Nothing new on the drugs as Middleboro has been a way station for years. We'd play basketball at Pierce Playground and light up joints. Dealers would stop buy and recruit or just sell. Cops would go by and do a Sgt. Shultz and that was 25 years ago.

I wandered over to casino-friend and Hal has his excuse front and center for not getting off his azz and updating. Thanks. I need something or I'll start to believe 1/10th of what MT and BB writes.

V.P. Gore, when I was 25 or so I had a Honda 160. Peppy little bike for getting around and trips into the countryside in Michigan where we lived.

A neighbor had one of those 1950's style police type Harleys and said I could use it when he was out of town. Unfortunately it didn't have an electric starter (don't know if any did in those days) and me weighing about 135 back then often either I couldn't kick start it or when Ifinally did I was too tired to ride it.

I once almost spun out taking an S - curve which had some sand on it out in the boonies - and another time I opened it up to about 130 on the expressway and the front end started to vibrate violently... both times I think my heart stopped.

When I visited people I had to leave it idling because I was never sure I could start it again.

Rules? The bog shrink arrives on the scene and the self proclaimed 'tell it like it is' renegade bogo 'shrinks' to prim and proper net behavior. LMAO!!

Hi, I'm belligerent and I have an attitude. Must be stuck in HKR's 3rd stage. Guess I need intensive cyber therapy.

Well, the site was fun while it lasted.

What! I'm the real anonymous and not that upstart. This will be like a To Tell The Truth game show so I'm showing my age.

No football so I have been out truck shopping today and there are bargains. Price wise I have narrowed it down to a Chevy and Ford but I prefer Chevy since I wanted to buy an S-10 but they don't make them anymore. Salesmen are just about begging me to buy and it is a sad situation for them with no sales. I may keep either GM or Ford afloat for a week if I buy.

Last year I bought a Harley Street Glide touring bike that I just love especially when gas was $4 a gallon. This bike is great and my wife and I rode all summer now that the kids are no longer kids and gone out on their own. I was surprised that she was actually interested in riding since she had put subtle pressure on me years ago to give up the bike I had. Was all about crash worries but she was the one that suggested I buy one as I've always kept my motorcycle license. We both work so she surprised me with a $5,000 Harley Gift Card.

IMO the casino is dead in the water for a bit. I suspect we will have a few years of nothing but sooner or later it will be built so I can have my retirement job. Like Bogo I get tired of the tossing of data back and forth by both sides as it means little to me. Is more like a he said she said.

Hal, your site is superior to the cfo site and I'm not saying it because I'm a pro. They specialize in cheap shots that would even make Bogo wince. "1623" is a piece of work and that round and round you had with him on the Canada site showed that quite clearly.

"Rules? The bog shrink arrives on the scene and the self proclaimed 'tell it like it is' renegade bogo 'shrinks' to prim and proper net behavior. LMAO!!"

My rules are the same as when Mad Max enters Thunder Dome and is told: "I'd explain the rules but there isn't any." Hal's a shrink so he likes order and discipline. LOL! Post under any name you want but the anonymous are confusing but no big deal since at my age I'm easy to get confused. But I will never sink to prim and proper. Now that was N-A-S-T-Y! LOL!

This is an open forum and is going along OK. Everyone should be use to Hal's style and mine and LL and a few others. No big deal to me. Hal and I have been on forums before and that can always lead to some fun exchanges. Hal's hard hitting stuff is reserved for CHB (Capitol Hill Blue) which you can all view. Think of it as Moonbat Central.

I had two motorcycles but gave them up years ago and discontinued my cycle license a few years back. After the bikes I ended up with airplanes - a Citabria and later a Piper Tri Pacer. Those are both history along with my command base - Middleboro Airport. Now it's Corvette's with one and another a possibility when GM finally starts to go belly-up.

Real Anonymous:

Of course you're the genuine article. I'm just a pain in the azz having a really lousy day and trying to spread my malcontent around. Misery loves company, as they say.

No real problem with either Hal or bogo. This is a good site, good posters, and worthwhile discussions.

What I really want is a divorce from my daughter. My fault for spoiling her rotten. Guess payback is a b*tch!

Please ignore my bad attempt at humor. Want a daughter who feels the world owes her everything? LMAO!

bogofree said...

No problem as this is a great place to vent...and vent...and vent. We have a resident shrink on board so you might be better off getting reruns of Dr. Phil. Keep that tag as it is a good one.

My daughter is 24 and still at home. At least she just got another job - finally. Although she has been semi paying her way around here and has finally decided that graduate school may be a nice option for making some money down the road.

drive-by said...

Well then, bogo, have I got a deal for you since your daughter seems well on her way to getting some horse sense.

Only child, now 22 and married for about a year. Gave her EVERY advantage.

Large extended family very big into holiday traditions. Any excuse to celebrate, sort of like the Clark Griswald fam.

Daughter marries Jehovah Witness assuring us that she knows who she is and no one can change that. She's her own person. Ha!

Okay, today she informs us that there will be no more Thanksgiving, no more Xmas, no more birthdays. No gifts. Can't come to our house if we decorate. No blood transfusions if her kids get hurt. Can't associate with people who smoke or "fornicate". Believes in shunning those who don't tow the party line, and that her new family is the Kingdom Hall crowd. And suddenly I'm told that the elders of her congregation will be visiting to show her "lost" parents the light. Got the picture?

I told her FINE. The gravy train's over. But we intend to live our lives exactly the way we always have.

Not exactly what I'd call a religious family. But we try to respect what others believe. But this BS is just over the top. Who the frig are these lunatics, daughter included? OMG, I'm ready to sign myself into Pembroke psych ward. My heart is broken. Where's Dr. Kevorkian when I need him?

BTW, I once read Carl Jung's "The Dark Side of God". Think I just encountered it.

Picking apart CFO bloggers is more amusing

bogofree said...

Being an atheist this is not hard for me to comprehend since the Kingdom Hall is right around the corner from my homestead on Susan Lane. Difficult folks to say the least - like a religious version of certain CFO bloggers. Real hard liners. Even as an atheist who is respectful to the high end I have found their incursions into my private life annoying but that has all ended. Even they can realize a real nut job.

Probably the best approach is the high road - a road I rarely travel but is best since the ties that bind are certainly tight at this point and you do not want them broken in a fit of rage. I am an expert on shunning since I have experienced it first hand and know the pain you may have to endure. The unfortunate thing is that your daughter and her "new family" are using emotional blackmail to reach a desired end and that, even to a dolt like Bogo, is totally counter productive.

I'm sure you have put out your guidelines in that certain family traditions will not be dissolved simply because her point of view has changed. Your life style and celebratory functions are not going to be cloistered over her newly discovered religious values. That you will not defame her religious choice but expect the same in return. Her husband (do they fornicate?) and her are welcome to visit anytime and they can raise their children in a manner they feel is appropriate to their own values. As with any child be they three or twenty-two they need to know the guidelines.

Of course, the upside is that if she has been raised in a home with a more liberal religious and cultural tradition she will soon tire of the claustrophobic atmosphere and start to modify or reject after the novelty wears off - especially if she was a questioning person. Then again, you can wait until the elders arrive and announce that the reason you had only one child is that both of you are Gay and the marriage is just a front, and would it be possible for you and your Gay lovers to have a nice wedding in Kingdom Hall?

Things can always be worse as my children, thanks to my bride, had to attend the Unitarian Church.

I like the idea of having Clark in a post. I’m sure others can provide their own insight that will far exceed what I can offer. Maybe someone has even had experience deprogramming people rescued from cults?

Well, after that I am going over and giving my daughter a hug.

So, who yould you like to torch this week? How about CDP? He's been kind of neglected in this flame fest? Have you noticed that on his profile he lists himself as a conservative Christian who's interests include anything biblical? Seems he missed the passages about treating others as you wish to be treated, love of enemies, charity, or "They will know you by your love". CDP, you can't just talk the talk-how about walking the walk? We could talk about his hypocricy. Or his feminine mystique: Lola, Lola, Lola. LOL! Of course, there's always his prideful fixation with being a 1623 descendent. As I recall, those early Pilgrims loved to decorate the stakes around Plymouth Colony with the heads of murdered Indians. Nice civilized bunch! Oh, but casinos are immoral!

How about this for amusing, anonymous: MR writes about a recent conversation with a young man from Middleboro who says that 5of his MHS classmates committed suicide because of gambling addiction. Fact or Fiction? C'mon, that's a whopper if I ever heard one.

"How about this for amusing, anonymous: MR writes about a recent conversation with a young man from Middleboro who says that 5of his MHS classmates committed suicide because of gambling addiction. Fact or Fiction? C'mon, that's a whopper if I ever heard one."

This is beyond belief. As with anything MR writes it would be interesting to see what the "source" was for this. Conversation? I doubt it. This is 2 to 100 ESL teachers all over agian.

"1623" has that double standard that is so casually employed by any true believer. "1623" has been racked over fairly well on Topix and on his own site he'll be selective in his posts as are all the cfo bloggers with nary a negative comment ever printed. Wonder how his political discussions go with MR? LMAO on that one@

drive-by said...

Five kids from the same graduating class in this little town? I can believe that someone was exaggerating in his conversation with MR. But she should have realized that figure is out of whack. Maybe five suicides from depression or whatever. But from gambling debts. No way. Honestly, I think she made the whole thing up for effect.

That's like her writing about all the area Jewish people who confided to her at the Y their anger about Mr. Bond's reference to the Holocaust in his blog entry. Has she even noticed there aren't that many Jewish people in this town? As a matter of fact, I can only think of four she's acquainted with and one of them is Mr. Bond. And I don't know any of them who go to the Y.

Hyperbole is a good tool when one is writing fiction. Oops! Oh yeah, MR is writing fiction.

Does she have a job? Husband? Kids? Grandkids? Hobbies? Or does her whole life revolve around trying to keep up with and impress her CFO friends? What astounds me is her gall at trashing Mimi and then showing up at an event at her home last summer acting like nothing was out of the ordinary. Have to give Mimi credit for being so civil to her. That woman has no sense of shame.

Suo Mynona said...

Mildly

I have not seen either of the comments.

Are you saying that CDP is like Al Pacino in The Godfather? Remember the Baptism scene when he had all those hits being made while he was in church for alibi?

On JP's Comment

I consider it off limits to make suicide comments. It is wrong to use someone's loss or injury of loved one to further your cause with out their permission. Jessie (if she said that), IMO, went completely over the top. Any person with any common sense or humanity can list all the reasons why.

It is another example of these bloggers that are all linked together will trample and attack anyone using any means available.

Looks like MT is right in calling the group the Blogfathers. I honestly hope the blogging thugs approve that statement. If they are not and leave it out there then their "ends justify the means" philosophy is blatantly on display. If not they should make a public rejection of the comment

drive-by said...

LMAO: Try asking her about her source in the comment section of her blog. Guaranteed it never gets answered or printed. That's the problem with blogs--absolutely no accountibility. No consequences for lying or hurting people.

Trashing people without being able to back it up is not Second Amendment rights. Can't see why there's no recourse in civil court.

It's really too bad so many of us feel we have to be anonymous because we're afraid the bloggers or forum hosts will put our names out there in ridicule. And what's almost as annoying is being told that our opinions are wrong thinking, like we're all idiots except them. And we can't even argue with them because they either won't print our comments or delete them.

bogofree said...

OK...I just checked out her blog after I was greeted by what has been posted. What to say? Unsubstantiated? Fabricated? What year? What sources? Easy to use "someone" else as a source such as Clark form Ct. but this one just blows me away. To hate something so much that you will print and say anything is just leaving me dumbfounded. Is it a lie? To me just look at the track record - some of it blogged here and some as comments in this thread and others - and then make your own choice. I know I have.

CP has a passion for “the cause” and his style can be, like mine, abrasive at times. As far as any personal contradictions I will say, as I have with the above post, make your own choice. Again, I have.

drive-by said...

Bogo You abrasive? Nah! You're just the Don Rickles of the blogshere. Speaking of him, just watched him at age 147 on a new HBO special. Looked like the poster child for prednisone, but as quick and sharp as ever. Love the way he can put someone down and still make them laugh. Priceless.

anonymous said...

No one comments on her blog not even herself anymore. JP has no impulse control and maybe Hal can give a solid definition of that. Seems that even few months she has to post something totally bizarre to get herself back in the limelight. I suspect that even her compatriots will not post comments at this point.

Now, BB, do you see why your site is dead? Can you even fathom what JP is capable of doing to your credibility by giving her such an open forum for BS like that? Fine, if you both share a moonbat political perspective, but do you also share her penchant for false data? Wait - you do, don't you, for allowing Clark to go unscathed. Think I'll bother with your ramblings in the Gazette? (worthless every other week).

Fathom? He does not seem to care. If he did care he would do something about it.

JP may be further damaging his credibility, but the problem runs deeper. MB appears to be trying to give JP MORE credibility by linking all the sites to her and giving her soap box at nemasket. All this because he does not want a casino.

MB it is real easy to solve the problem. Just do a few strokes on the keyboard and cut her off. Show that you do not condone that type of blogging. No action on the issue is the same as confirmation of agreement IMO

OK, LMAO, I'll try to recreate it.

bogoshrink: My point, as a Jew myself, is that I was deeply offended when Jessie reported Mr. Bond to the ADL for Anti-Semitism. It didn't take a brain surgeon to understand the point he was trying to make in his Holocaust post citing the dangers of racism. But good ole Jessie had to twist and turn his words to make them a red herring in the casino debate. Jessie calling a Jew Anti-Semitic? Jessie the blogger who demonizes Israel as baby killers and terrorists in the Palestinian crisis daring to take such an action? Jessie who berates American Jews for their financial support and "right of return" to Israel? I have no tolerance for people who oversimplify very complex problems to suit their agenda. BTW, as is obvious, the ADL did not take her complaint seriously after reviewing the facts. As a matter of fact, I called them myself to discredit her and spoke to a young man who had already done his research and understood (and never betrayed any confidences) that her complaint was targetting Adam for his stance in the local casino fight. I NEVER file complaints or suits against anyone. But her mean spirited ignorance infuriated me.

So where do you want your enregy to come from when you turn on the light switch? natural gas and diesel, not so bad. Are you now a nimby? The casino is ok but an electricity plant that would provide more serice to more people located in another town that needs taxes is wrong?

I have zero problems with a power plant nor do I really oppose coal fired plants or a nuke, solar, windmills, heat pumps or expanded off shore drilling. I have seen positives and negatives on all but with a certain level of development comes the necessity to have energy to run the engine. Significant strides have been made in the technology of producing energy with minimal impact. Not perfect but when the need is there adjustments are made. I really think that certain factions within the environmental movement go to the extreme and we as a nation are paying a steep price for that. Personally, I do not want to sit around the camp fire skinning the results of the daily hunt.

time for you to link to Middleboro Review bogshrink.

None of that provides the energy that consumers need. It is unreasonable to think this country will meet its future energy needs with out bringing more fossil fuel and nuclear power plants on line.

BTW start cooking at home instead of driving a car to the Central. Or be like Bogo and install expensive Solar panels that have a 20 year ROI.

Stop buying wine that is shipped on fossil fuel burning trucks from napa valley, france or germany vineyards that consume fossil fuels. to make matters worsee they are bottled in energy intensive glass bottles and have synthetic corks. It is a personal luxury you can eliminate to help reduce our national dependence on fossil fuels.

You probably use air conditioning in the summer. More energy that is an unecessary luxury. Plenty of poor people go with out it. But since some affluent do gooders can afford it they over look their energy abuse.

How many cars do you have -- two? That is an unecessary luxury that cause more energy to be consumed at many levels.

The hypocrisy of no fossil fuel people is beyond belief.

bogofree said...

With a power plant in Brockton you will get collateral damage. Is the price less than a casino? IMO that is a no-brainer. You have an important product being delivered with as much safeguards as technology allows. Is it perfect? Far from it but the simple fact is we use energy in prodigious amounts and are being joined by other nations doing exactly the same. Bridges to other forms of energy are in various stages of development and that learning and investment curve is spiraling upward. This applies to all energy. No new power plants, no new chemical plants, no new refineries and most of all a serious curtailment of energy exploration and development of fossil resources will put you in the situation we are currently in. You don’t switch overnight. As I CLEARLY pointed out there are many various forms of energy available and all are in the process of being developed to varying degrees.

As far as being green I have those wonderful solar panels on my roof that have been there since 1981 - long before it became the in thing to do. I would have installed a wind mill but that was not allowed “back in the day.” We recycled BEFORE Mboro even recycled. My house has a new set of windows (15K). Energy rated appliances. On and on. I have posted many, many times on environmental concerns regarding the casino and Mboro in generally but I have enough common sense not to take every left wing or right wing statement on energy and environment as a truth. I will not buy into an agenda simply because I may feel comfortable with certain political positions. I can certainly become the “King Of Cut And Paste” and show articles and research that can debunk any position one may choose on this issue. From my OWN PERSONAL experience with environmentalist organizations I have found them to be far too radical, using dubious research and unwilling to realize that an issue such as energy independence is a slow process . I really disliked it for being taken to task by organizations and individuals that rarely practiced what they so loved to preach .

As far as drilling I have no problem with that - no more than bog developers who use virtually strip mining tactics to get sand and gravel - a big problem locally. I feel we should use coal. Have plenty of it so why ship it to China? I have no problem with shale oil development. I have no problem with a wind farm anywhere. I would like to see hydro developed more. I would love to see nuke plants built.

I have a truck but I need it for business. I have a wood stove and three acres that I use for wood. I know Bozo is a big time gardner and we now have 1/4 acre planted. I compost. I use well water. I recycle. I also realize that $4.50 a gallon kills me and that there is ways of keeping that cost reasonable while transitions to others forms of energy take place.
I do not buy into the rants of the moonbats on the envioronment or energy. They have some great points but they always go extreme on you. Forget that. I would not mind paying fifty-cents a gallon for development of alternative energy but the key is the wonders that we elect would use it for other things.

Finally, may I suggest if the health agent is so concerned about our health she should set an example and lose a few pounds. And the same applies to JP.

Going green is one thing but going broke is another. Everyone with even half a brain (Bogo?) knows the need to go green as much as possible but the bottom line is I'm not going nuts and shut down our standard of living over it. Drilling is going to be necessary until changes are made and from I can see that is happening.

Looks like a double standard NIMBY approach on the power plant.

"A fanatic" is someone who takes something just one step farther than do you as an individual. It is very relative.

Talking sheep, Hal, is bring MB into the conversation.

I have had a real issue with what I refer to as dueling data during the recent casino discussion. I have found that in issues from the mundane to the hot button that the centrist view is usually the one that is the most pragmatic. IMO that power plant is a real need and infinitely more significant than a casino. The power will be 250,000+ homes and the jobs created will be a huge plus. As far as the environmental concerns I feel that the environmentalist head hunters are really overstating on this one as they are prone to do. I have seen, as you have with growers, Hal, how they try to tie up things. In my case it is drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. No issue with AMERICAN platforms. Nothing. Drill away as part of the big picture. That and coal are all parts of the puzzle along with everything else.

MR, Hal, has been the Queen of Cut and Paste" on the local energy issue. I have posted on it on this very blog. Excellent source for information but beware of the moonbat political slant.

Now with links. On issues on Nemasket.net when I linked I linked to multiple sources including those that would conflict with my opinion. I consider that balanced. Toss as much info and let the reader decise. Another poster would use Mother Jones as a source. WTF! Think I would take that seriously?

So bogshrink when is something a waste of energy and an uneccesary luxury? We need some defintions if we are going to say building a power plant -- that has public demand for it's product -- is wrong.

Maybe the whole green thing needs to be looked at with common sense. There is a book called the death of common sense or something like that.

The concern with the Brockton Power plant is that 1. They did not do any air quality analysis south and south east of Brockton (due to prevailing winds), 2. They cannot meet environmental requirements so they intend to purchase credits from other pollution generating plants and 3. my concern is using treated sewer water for cooling which can release additional metals into the atmosphere.

Cleaner is relative. Almost anything would be cleaner than a coal plant.

anonymous said...

Hal I have seen personal attacks on people who were pro and I have seen those attacks magnified by MR when she ran for office and recall. Do you read her blog? Do you read MT? I have heard MR comments on personal issues with those she disagrees with. I don't want to hear about her perceptions of drinking and marital issues on her enemies list. The woman has no boundaries and I want to put myself in a position to have to counter her BS? That's why I'll go anonymous and so will most others. You and Bogo make your own choices and if the only way you feel you can communicate is with someone using a real name then just forget anything others post. I guess a comment like "Drill baby drill" is not hostile? To me it was. Snarky?

I also find that your anti power plant and pro casino position to be in conflict with one another. Traffic, environment, heath issues all seem to mirror one another. Do you consider a casino more worthy? As far as the article it was pure NIMBY. Same as the CFO group. You use to get on them over that and now the tables have turned? The plant will not be built since it is not wanted. But that does not mean it is not needed. Two different things. When everyone whines in a few years about energy costs I hope they remember that very plant. Everyone knows about environmental issues and most people have made adjustments in their lifestyle.

bogofree said...

So far so good, posters. Looks like I don't have anything to really edit - yet. With all the hot air expended from this post (I'm the exception - natch) we may not need a power plant.

FF nice to see you show up. Look forward to your points.

I just get the impression that Jeanne Spaulding over reacts on certain issues and this is one. Traffic? WTF does that have to do with us? Is she going to monitor air quality? Her mentioning elevated lung cancer rates has what basis of connection? Does she have a clue on why the rates are elevated? Is she now “Dr” Spaulding? The way this plant is being spoken about I suspect the entire SE Massachusetts will look like Shanghai on a warm August afternoon, Hey, people, let's not get carried away. Guess power plants will go down as a great regional evil.

The point in the story that caught my interest was the real need for this plant. Somewhat conflicting in that we are suppose to be within a position in this state where it is not a necessity so if that is true why would a company wish to put that type of investment out front? Is this really necessary or not? Is the technology something exceptionally special that would justify this? I also fully understand why the company would not want this to be a public forum since all that would result in is disruptive behavior. Why be part of a circus? I'm sure that process can continue after their presentation. Let them get their presentation out front and go from that point.

I also saw the post by MR today regarding gambling and suicide. I cannot quite understand what motives drive her to go to such extremes.

Allowing off shore drilling for oil and natural gas should be part of a comprehensive energy program that would also allow shale oil development on Federal lands. The idea is not to deliver products from this expansion into foreign or open markets but to limit them to domestic consumption. To ignore this option puts the country at an economic and security disadvantage.

Since the 1981 ban was implemented the United States has relied extensively on foreign production and we have seen the end result of dependence upon others. Mexico has an abysmal record for safety and environmental issues in their off shore rigs in the Gulf while the United States has just the opposite including Alaska. Methods and safety standards have reduced the risk of spillage and most importantly reduced the need for extensive numbers of platforms. Domestic operations have an exceptional performance record as does British Petroleum and Royal Dutch (Shell).

Many of the Democrats have scoffed at the idea of drilling since it appears to be a party dogma. A dogma that many were willing to cast aside as prices neared $5 a gallon for gasoline and home heating oil. To ignore the new technology and to rule it out completely is a great disservice to the nation and it has and should be incorporated into a blanket energy policy. A nuke submarine poses a greater danger. Landfills are a greater risk.

The drilling operations have improved dramatically and techniques with slant drilling and under water well head development is excellent. The Gulf and Artic towers are a bastion for sea life. If the Artic (ANWR) is opened up the environmental impact may be negligible as it has been with Prudhoe Bay and the pipeline.

You have a blog called Jessie Powell -- Confirmed Liar and it has over taken the drivel at nemasket (last I checked) and meager postings made. And you are not linked to a million websites.

The topics here have now become quite diverse. Says something about this forum as opposed to one that is moderated by someone that now has two failed message boards.

I posted on LL's forum very briefly when it first got started. Well, I mostly read without commenting. The big problem there is that I felt overdosed on the casino issue. As I recall it was not as toxic, at least in the beginning, as MB claimed (with the obvious exception of the ever kooky VV). JP's multiple monikers didn't bother me as much as what she had to say. THAT was not the place to get preachy. Also, LL could be a funny guy. But he misundertood easily and took offence sometimes at posts that really looked fairly innocuous to me. Bogo was the one person LL trusted and respected enough to really listen to. I don't think that most expected the aftermath we saw when JP decided to try to force his hand and used dirty tricks to get him off the net, mostly to try to protect MT and CC from their percieved (?) harassment in their personal lives. That and she obviously hated LL. So much drama and over-reaction. Funny thing is JP turned out to be much more of a whack job than LL. He's not my cup of tea, but one has to give him credit for surving in a business where most fail. And, bottom line, he understood better than most the problems that not attracting business or jobs to the area was going to lead to. He was right about that. Here is is, folks.

Funny, as aggressive and obtrusive as the 'lady' is online, she seemed so shaky and unsure of herself whenever she spoke publicly. I noticed she rarely looked up from her prepared speeches and made eye contact with people. I'm no shrink, but she seems to have a real underlying self esteem problem, especially in situations that are beyond her control. I know everyone's going to jump all over me on this one, but part of me feels very sorry for her. I suspect her paranoia has grown now that people pick her up for playing fast and loose with the facts, because she doesn't seem to learn and continues to fault others without acknowledging her own shortcomings. It's not going to happen now, but if she had only learned a little humility and accepted that others have made very valid points, things may have gone differently and she wouldn't have totally lost her credibility.

The biggest mistake MB continues to make, besides enabling MR, is that Middleboro can't be reinvented and that a handful of 'involved' posters can't change the establishment. IMO, change can't be forced or enforced. It's a long slow process and those who've lived and worked here most of their lives resent heavy handed tactics. MB's also got to realize that just because most don't have his educational and professional advantages does not mean they're dumb. One of the smartest men I've met here is an older diesel mechanic who never went beyond the 10th grade. He reads, pays attention and comes up with insights that never occurred to me. I've always felt my education gave me some critical thinking skills and valuable exposure to the evolution of civilization. Formal learning is is a great foundation, but not the only route to knowledge. It certainly didn't give me the good horse sense my friend has. Just ask my wife.

I have no idea what has happened at nemasket.net but when it becomes a bully pulpit - which it had - then it deserves to fail. Allowing a disgraced poster not to be accountable is inexcusable but what is in the past is done. I have rehashed it and will compare it to the NB meeting Hal spoke of - leftovers at this point.

LL has, IMO, somewhat reformed on his site. It is very casino oriented in design but not really in application. However, that die has been cast and will be difficult to amend. I still suggest folks wander over and post and give it a try. Since the casino is on semi hold it has gone in some different directions.

Through the years we have sponsored exchange students and one who lives in Poland just got married. He sent me money to purchase some Kitchen Aid items that he and his new bride wanted - a blender, upright mixer and an attachment package. I shopped around and got them at Amazon for about $430 and shipping to Poland will cost another $250. These same items would cost $1900 in Poland. Interesting.

On the shopping front I ma being dragged out this morning to Macy’s. Prime objective of this mission is a new set of pots and pans and a toaster. I finally convinced my wife that when she continues to buy $10 toasters and they fail in a few months that it would be best to make a more solid investment. The pots and pans are long over due as all we have is a collection that runs from useless cheap s**t to top of the line. My daughter and I am the primary cooks so this is an upgrade we can both live with.

LL stands for Limo Loser and it was one of the names Bogo pinned on Mike at the CFO site. Bogo was Bratbird back then and he could just get under your skin with his attitude, comments and don’t give a damn postings. He use to drive Tony nuts. Tony would post and post and Bogo would post two lines and sum it all up. And make Tony look like some simpleton. I once got so pissed at Bogo I sent him this blazing email and he sends back for me to relax and have some Prozac. That I can have his since you can tell by my posts I don’t take it. I knew right then and there that he and Mike were playing with everyone. Bogo just will post exactly what he feels about a situation and that was what killed him at other sites - except with LL. CFO thought he was one of their own and they were dead wrong since that is what this blog is all about. He posted comment that would be pro, anti or neutral so my hat is tipped to him. His insights on nemasket were great especially dealing with the windbags that seem to flock to that site.

I appreciate this site in that it is not clogged up with links and attempts by posters to appear just so all knowing. It is open to all and that is just great to me.

One story that I'd like to share is a few months ago someone on Topix goes after Bogo on something really stupid so he signs on as Bratird, Therealraven and Bogofree and has this three way conversation with the poster in question as the topic. Never heard from that poster again. ROTFLMAO!

First, the casino seems to be very threatening to some people, way out of proportion. I'm not a shrink, but I'm hearing a lot of fear, as if this "gin mill", as bogo calls it, would cause some sort of personal devastation to lives and a way of life. I don't know any other way of putting it, but some folks have just gone nuts.

Many people seem oblivious to the fact that when one writes on the internet it's not like having a chat with a friend over a cup of coffee. It's permanently out there for everyone to read and never just disappears. It can be found somehow ad infinitum. And since all message boards, most more virulent than the local ones, allow screen names and can be accessed using throwaway email accounts (gmail, yahoo, hotmail), where people can register using bogus info or anonymous proxies, they feel relatively safe that their identities won't be discovered when they take their online hissy fits. As long as there is no real legal recourse to hold posters criminally or civilly accountible, this flaming pathology will just go on and on and on. The internet has become the Dodge City of the 21st century. And there's no Wyatt Earp to tell users to check their guns at the city line before entering. Sooner or later, I believe this will be addressed legislatively. But for now, it's enter at your own risk.
Another factor is that even in these "enlightened" times, many are still living in the Dark Ages in their perceptions of Mental Health and providers. I hear comments all the time like "Shrinks are crazy themselves, that's why they relate to their clients". Or "Psychotherapy? Useless! Doesn't do a damn thnig to help people. You're just paying someone big bucks to pretend to be your friend." Funny, those who disrespect your profession are often the ones who need help the most. So shrinks have routinely become the butt of jokes. And many have the attitude of "Grow up and deal with things" to people suffering from psychological issues.

Anyway, as long as people know who you are, what you do, and how to access your attention, some are going to act like jerks and go after you. We live in a society that is still amazingly ignorant about illnesses that aren't visible and the people who treat them. Look at how pathetically little insurances allow in benefits for Mental Health. You can charge $120 for 50 minutes of therapy and they'll reimburse about half of that, then severely limit the number of allowed visits. Cheaper for them to have MDs throw meds at half the population instead of investing the time and money to deal with underlying issues.

Time to check in and see what the children are up to this morning and from last evening.

A few seemed to have wandered in from beyond and I assume Family Guy and Rigger are new entries and you are both welcome. Rigger....I assume you spent considerable time on the North Slope - a hell hole for work. I have a son, Jonathan, who spent two years as a chef (cook) on the railroad in Alaska. Went to Alaska one summer and it was an enjoyable trip. Amazing place that time of year.

The ire is rising to new levels in Massachusetts regarding how gov't is approaching our fiscal shortfalls and, as usual, we shall get hit with the tab. The classic appeared in today's Herald in which "Mumbles" has managed to float 52 new hires onto the payroll with a freeze in place. This is magnified nationally as gov't entities are lining up one after another with hat in hand for a share of the bailout pie. I just hate to say "I told you so."

EUROX...someone must have been reading my various financial posts over the last year or so. I can tell you with a personal drop of 40% I'm the one to come to for advice. Natch, like Hal, I cannot really give advice unless I frame it as a "suggestion." EUROX specializes in the Eastern European markets and has really tumbled this year - about 65%. The fund may actually fail if the European markets continue to plummet - and they will. If I was to purchase this fund and any other derivatives it would be on the upswing. I would like to see world wide indexes rise at least 10% before I'd invest. IMO what we are seeing will be catastrophic. And just the hope of administrative change has had the opposite impact one would expect as 13% has been shed in the last week or so. If the bottom was reached today - and it has not been - it will take at least five years to recoup your losses.

But the most important question is, of course, Coco. This is a nice deal for the Sox as Ramirez will provide an exceptionally steady arm in the bullpen. This allows the Sox to use Masterson in several different roles or package him in a deal. I also suspect the Sox will make a serious effort to get free agent outfielder Rocco Baldelli - a R.I. kid. Rocco is an exceptional fielder and a power bat from the right hand side. His health issues may limit his role but with JD Drew you know you'll get in some games and Ellsbury will need to sit against certain lefties. Sox also take about 10Mil off the books to be used to pursue AJ Burnett or Derek Lowe.

Hey, Bozo, I see you posted on Toxic so I don't know if you are raising or lowering your standards? Nice invite someone posted and maybe Less Nosy will show up. Hell, maybe MR and MT will show up. Doubt that since they can't control the site.

I am also in the I told you so category as you know. I wanted question #1 to pass and once they heat was off back to the same old for the politicos. I have relatives all over the country and they just laugh at us with Barney Frank and John Kerry. Spitzer gets canned for a business transaction. I bet if he was with a guy the moonbats would have circled the wagons and he'd still be in office. LMAO!

What I just love, Bogo, is the market is down 40% but several of my funds are down 50%! WTF! So much for management skills and my own fault for not just going into ETF's. I read that labor costs for the auto industry are $78 an hour! Again, WTF did I do wrong? To me the whole thing is a mess from jet set executives to line workers getting a bundle. Kiss them good bye in my book. LMAO!

Just read your comment on Topix and had to chuckle. I love this place just the way it is without all the high tech frills. No graphics, no order, no gimmicks. But then I've always felt most comfortable in chaos. Ask me where something is and I can pull it right out of the appropriate pile in my computer room.
Then dear wifey comes in, thinking she's doing me a huge favor, organizes everything, cleans out the cobwebs, files things in folders with little plastic, color coded sticky things, fabreezes the hell of of the place, and I can't find squat. When are women going to understand that men NEED their dark, dank caves to find an occassional hour of peace? Ladies, multi task away. You can have the whole house except a man's refuge. Spending the afternoon painting a sign that says "Abandon hope all ye who enter here" and nailing it to my cave entrance.

My wife is The Queen of Clutter. She has clothes that date back over 40 years just being saved and it does not stop there as I once counted over 150 pairs of shoes and a collection of 3,000 recipes cut from newspapers. Out house looks like a landfill since she will not toss anything out. She claims she is "organized" and that is a total joke as she is clueless where to find anything and it extends to shopping. Just a lot of duplication since her inventory skills are non existent. My daughter and I will take stuff and put it into grocery market bags and dump it off when we get gas or go to the store - a real ritual and she misses nothing. I am certainly no Felix Unger but even I have enough sense to weed out items that will never be used.

My wife was a third grade teacher before she retired and one day my daughter and I decided to venture into our study to find out exactly what was in there. My desk area is fairly neat but my wife's had at least two feet of collections on top of it and then we made a prized discovery. As a third grade teacher you get gifts around Xmas time and we found a collection next to the couch. A quick examination and calculation showed that the students who gave her those gifts were now out of college. If I present her with anything that resembles organizational or time management skills it only results in a battle royal so I have given up on that. But the fault is really mine as I knew exactly what I was getting into when I married her. Oh the number of times I was late for a play or show. That’s my martial pout for the day.

I was in the computer field when computers were a rare item. I even worked with old tabulating machines that were quite common place in the 50s and into the 60s - IBM 402/403/407 and all the other stuff that went with a punch card system from printers to sorters to collators. Then onto to the mainframes from the IBM 1401 to 360 to 370 to the large MVS mainframes. Manly operations as middle management and some programming with COBOL and SPS and a few others. Got out for a reason - I hated it! With the little bandbox PC’s I do little and I could care less about learning C+ or anything us. I could care less about the operating systems and VISTA or anything else is as important to me as if there is a gas giant circling Sirius four. I remember back in the distant past having to type in all those glorious DOS commands that went on for line after line and I have totally flushed that from my memory banks. When I see some of the stuff posted on a site like Dave’s Site I have Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome surface. Maybe some day I will wander over to BCC or the BP Tech and take an adult education course. Until then everything is real simple. I do not even know how to post pictures or use a digital camera or anything besides accepting or placing a call on my cell phone.

Here is quite a story from the wires. This is an example of someone who just is totally clueless and I suspect things will not change with the next administration. Personally, I'd start to treat the people involved in this as you would a war criminal.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson called the financial crisis now plaguing the world economy a "once or twice" in a 100 years event, even as he warned Thursday against imposing too-strict regulations to prevent a repeat calamity.

Paulson's remarks follow pledges by world leaders attending last week's emergency economic summit to begin an overhaul of the world's financial regulatory system.

With the next summit slated for the spring, the work on fleshing out details for the Herculean task will fall to the incoming administration of President-elect Barack Obama and his new Treasury secretary.

Paulson, whose boss President George W. Bush leaves office on Jan. 20, acknowledged that the financial crisis was caused by many factors including "government inaction and mistaken actions, outdated U.S. and global financial regulatory systems, and by the excessive risk-taking of financial institutions."

Still, he cautioned against the U.S. and other countries developing a too-onerous regulatory response.

"If we do not correctly diagnose the causes, and instead act in haste to implement more rather than better regulations, we can do long-term harm," Paulson said in a speech in Simi Valley, Calif.

Earlier this week, lawmakers blasted Paulson for his handling of a $700 billion financial bailout package to help ease the crisis and restore stability and confidence to unhinged markets.

Paulson on Thursday again defended his management, including his decision last week to officially abandon the original rescue strategy: buying rotten mortgages and other bad debts from banks to free up their balance sheets and get them to lend more freely.

"By proactively addressing the problems we saw coming and being pragmatic enough to change strategy in the face of changed facts and despite the inevitable criticism -- we prevented a far worse financial crisis," Paulson insisted.

Focusing the bailout program on infusing billions into banks -- and possibly other types of companies -- to pump up their capital and bolster lending to customers was deemed a faster and more effective approach to stabilizing the financial system than the original centerpiece of the plan, he said.

"There was no playbook for responding to a once or twice in a hundred year event," Paulson argued, saying he needed to shift strategy to respond to worsening financial and economic conditions.

Paulson again said he believed the Bush administration has taken the necessary steps to prevent a financial market collapse, but he cautioned that it will take time for markets and lending conditions to return to normal.

Anon...the economic issue is a mess and since my wife and myself rely on state pensions I consider those at a high risk level. If the next two months are like the last two the funds will be drained quickly which would leave everyone in a bind. The state could significantly cut the fund distribution and if unemplyment goes up rapidly and it will then we will be dead in the water. I would suggest everyone to homestead their property.

The great computer controversy. Here is the story, Hal, so you understand. 99% of us just don't give a shit. Simple as that. When Bogo talks his inside baseball 99% of us will tune out. Doesn't mean it's not interesting it just means it has a small and selective audience and the mainstream could care less. If BB wishes to waste half a sheet of valuable newspaper that is great since his editor obviously thinks it's important. I don't and I'm sure the vast majority agree with me. As far as you comments on computers it is nice that you make an effort to have a bit of info online as you did on other site's. LMAO it has always amazed me the lock step support that is generated in this state for political incompetence and collective malfeasance. You get what you pay for and we have paid an awful lot. The current tolls/gas tax issue is so symptomatic of a mind set that escapes me that somehow we have to empty our wallets while the political infrastructure goes unscathed. When Gov. Patrick was coroneted he immediately brought back reminders of Ed King and his lobster dinners with what may seem like trivial expenditure - Nice Caddy, drapes and an expanded office staff but the example it sets is to just thumb their political noses at us. One of the measures that FDR implemented was to limit the number of Federal employees from one household. Can you just imagine the job openings in Massachusetts if that what into place? Why the Bulger clan alone would free up hundreds of slots in the Great Political Dumping Ground know as our judicial system. As the sayings go “The more things change the more they stay the same” and “Meet the new boss same as the old boss.” I can say with a fervent belief that if the political tables were turned you would see little difference and that is what I have witnessed in my life span on a national and local scale.

With me when I see anything with the little mini computers I have flash backs to another time and place in my employment career. A corporate version of a Turkish prison without being “married” to some steamer trunk look alike named Klaus. I have no real issue with anything Hal posts on computers as it is up to the reader to either pay rapt attention or wander off to another post. As far as the BB column that is open to dispute as the various computer geeks, junkies and wanna be’s can toss out their ideas for what is a thumbs up or down. My computer is an eight year old E-Machine that has done it’s job and the operating system is fine. Like most of us the computer is simply another tool in which we can either expand or limit our abilities on. I choose a fairly stationary existence with mine but someday I may take a class or two to figure out more sophisticated operations. Not very high on my wish list.

I like Grisoft's AVGFree for antivirus. It is truly free (if you can find it). They do advertise their pay product like crazy. Here is a link.

How about those of us who use Google Documents. This is a great online only option for basic word processing, spreadsheets and presentations. All your data is stored online (scary).

Google has come out with ChromeChrome. A clean web browser without all kinds of extras. There are holes in it but it is made for a basic computer to run without the bloat of other browsers.

One thing most people will not tell you about free software is that you always want to custom install it. That way you do not end up with a google or yahoo tool bar that takes over your computer.

Also if you don't want Open Office, you have to be careful with your JAVA updates. Sun was firmly behind the creation of it.

The biggest worry is that people say fine, I won't use the free software, I will by the $4.99 games CD at the check out line. Watch out people. That can be worse than the free games with the extras they install or home page they choose for you.

As a side note, the word verification I just got here was "shiess". Funny.

I read "a bumpkin's brain" this morning. Several observations. Bumpkin's column had about 46 uses of the first person. It is very easy to write a tech article without the first person. Using Me My myself and I so often just distances the reader. Which is what he does.

MB comes from the Jessie Powell school of writing -- preach to the reader rather than engage.

Two notable quotes:
"You must hear my words"
"Your shortsightedness"

The reason so many computer manuals are so hard to read is because they written by geeks that have no writing or interpersonal skills.

Mid level computer users know of and may choose to use appropriate freeware. I will not allow relatives or friends to use much free ware (other than AVG), it confuses them too much. The computer is set up to run out of the box. Free ware is either something a person wants to learn and will, or should stay away from. The average computer user is quite happy with the suite of software installed on their computer and the perhaps the automatic updates. Then they can take it to the local computer geek and have it cleaned once in a while.

Installing freeware is very tricky in most cases for average users. Most applications ask you to do a "standard recommended installation" not a "custom installation" The difference is that the standard installation allows the free ware program to infiltrate your system in many undesirable ways. "Free" usually comes with a hidden price. It takes savvy to avoid the hidden cost. Stay way unless you have the time, inclination, and someone to call for help.

Like many, I run free ware on friends computers to clean their systems. I have learned to not talking about it or teach them unless their is an expressed interest. They do not want to know

Thank you for getting me started again, LMAO.

I look at this state and the pattern of corruption is well embedded and I put that squarely on the one party system and in this case it is all Democratic. The leadership roles in the House and Senate almost are a sure bet to be indicted at some time. Go back 100 years and the reverse was true.

As far as NPR, Hal, I would give them the same funding I would give GM - zero. CNBC ( do they ever get decent ratings?) is as worthless as FOX with an ex jock sniffer (Oberman) as point man and I'd say Matthews and O'Reilly cross themselves out. Watching either outlet for more than a few minutes is enough to question anyone's sanity. Oberman and Matthews also got "canned" for lack of objectivity during the recent election. Gee...that was a shock, especially after the nightly dump on Hillary rants.

The NY Times - I have more faith in Star Magazine rather than listen to the same old tired tunes that I hear from them and the Globe, NY Post, Washington Post (Truly worthless) and right down the line. I don't even have to read opinion pieces beyond the first paragraph and I can tell you the content. Like seeing a movie for the second time you know what is going to happen. I use to get six-eight newspapers a day and now just the Herald since it is easy to read on the exercise bike. Journalism today has shrunk to the point where even hard news articles become vapid opinion pieces. Columbia School of Journalism should just close up shop.

IMHO the absolutely worse possible thing to happen is influence by wingnuts and moonbats. They should be collected up and tossed into some remote part of the Chilean Coast where they can preach to each other and tell each how pious their opinion are. Leave the rest of us alone to manage our own lives without their pontificating on everything.

As far as a ledger count, Hal, be my guess as I only consider the moonbats and wingnuts a small fringe who occasionally whiff power and then get a chance to show us why they are so pathetic. The latest one nabbed happened to be a top of the line moonbat and he sold out for a thousand bucks! That's embarrassing. Tell this character to look up the old time Boston pols who could teach him a thing or two on bribes. I won’t even get to Mazilli - someone who is quite lucky a husband or boyfriend was not around otherwise he’d have been planted on the spot.

As for the wingnnuts and moonbats show me a McGovern and I will raise you a Newt. Get me a Pelosi (IMO the most destructive politician in the country sans Bush) and I will gladly try to trump that with a Paul. I could go on and on but if Obama is smart - I mean really, really smart he will do what Clinton did and drift to the center. After the bailout bill I would consider each and every one that voted for it in the same category as war criminals. And as I have stated many a time in the last month that ended it for me. Anyone want to buy the lame azzed song and dance the pols spin just be ny guest as they have been removed from my dance card.

To me the classic example of a moonbat is our very own JP. Just cruise through her blog and it is enough to show you why one should just turn on their heels and run.

Now that was a rant!

On a lesser - much lesser note - Las Vegas Sands is now a penny stock as it has shed 98% value in the last year. This impacts Mboro since it is an example of exactly what is happening to the casino "industry." It's dead. Think anyone will toss some money into a casino in this economy? LOL! I have always said the deal we signed was complete garbage and that is now surfacing. Just public safety along will dig deep into that seven million and, IMO, the best possible thing that could happen is it all just falls apart and Mboro can renegotiate.

anonymous said...

This is like listening to "Queen" and the song "And another one bites the dust." This time the ALLEGED "victim" is leaving the courthouse to chants of "Chuck, Chuck, Chuck" from his supporters. This is only the beginning and I suspect it will run very, very deep as it has in the past.

The Big Dig was just a huge money pit from grafy and corruption and some of it occasionally sufaces and that will never end. Now we have to pay the big for shoddy workmanship and obvious oversight by the government. No surprise with that.

anonymous said...

LOL Bogo as I read your rant after I posted. I would love to see the government out of broadcasting but what I really find disturbing is the incursion into our lives with the revival of the Fairness Doctrine. This is nothing more than a veiled attempt to silence talk radio since it is primarily the mouthpiece of the right. Somehow I suspect if the tables were turned Nancy Pelosi would not be one bit interested. I hope the ACLU does not have their blinders on with this issue as it is just an outright attack on the First Amendment.

I disagree with you on the deal, Bogo, as at the time it represented what was considered a top of the line offer and it was approved at TM with a 67% vote. If we all had a crystal ball then things might have been different but I felt that ground breaking would take place within 18 months and the resort-Casino/Bingo Hall/Gin Mill would be up and running within 3 years. Somehow I suspect that we could just keep going over and over with the whole issue without accomplishing a thing except to further agitate everyone involved. What is done is done and now we must live and abide by it.

The Moscow Times, Hal? I can read CHB for their perspective. LOL! No...papers are what they are - Op-Ed's and that is just opinions. What I find disturbing is the that no longer is an objective approach used in too many news stories. The Michael Moore School. Right across the board.

On CHB do you list several sources for an article or story including some that may actually offer an alternative point of view? Maybe your own Fairness Doctrine? That has been a significant issue for me with other site's where posters will continually post information that is slanted or one sided designed ONLY to support their point. I had noted before that on nemasket.net I did just the opposite and have tried to do so on a consistent basis since I am a firm believer in presenting ALL the information and then decide.

I post extensively on sports posting boards and can tell you how easy it is to twist and slant data. A classic example is the use of Sabermetrics, which is the analysis of reams of data for baseball. When I say this is high end math I mean high end math. Several years ago the Father Of Sabermetrics, Bill James, showed statistically that Lance Johnson was a better and more valuable player than Kirby Puckett. This may mean little to the non baseball fan but Johnson was one of LL's Yugo's and Kirby Was a Rolls Silver Cloud.

I have not followed the issue of The Fairness Doctrine and thank you for posting the difference between that and equal time. IMO the Fairness Doctrine use just smacks of closing the door and what goes around comes around. A party in power can attempt to put in back door attacks on the First and that is exactly what it appears to be.

Anon I watched the recent booking of Mr. Turner and he did what you would expect - a whole big show of outrage. No doubt you can expect the race card to surface soon.

Tonight it is corned beef and cabbage. A celebration for the fact that the market did not lose 6% for a change. I have also been getting emails from GM asking me to call my rep and tell them to write a check payable to GM and to be paid for by my children and grand children. I will just get on my GS-5 on Monday AM and fly down to D.C. and ask them to drop twenty or thirty billion into the corporate coffers so an entrenched union (UAW) and a clueless industry can keep on down that path of bad business.

The New York Times does have lots of reporters everywhere and has wonderful prose. But you have to admit that they are far from fair and balanced. Fox News has been widely acclaimed for being the most fair and balanced. You surely agree with that.

bogofree said...

Nurse...now you are talking! The Great State of Texas! And you have selected the one part of Texas that IMHO is possibly the best place in the U.S.A. to live. But when you speak of Austin I don’t think Austin per se.

If you go north of San Antonio (over rated city) on route 16 (Bandera Highway) until you hit Route 290 and go east you get to Austin. Now, if you head south on I-35 you get back to SA but you have created a triangle that is Hill Country. Anywhere within that triangle you are less than a hour from SA or Austin and the places to live are great. I’d go up in that area and check them out, especially Fredericksburg. But back to Austin. Cosmopolitan college town and the center of government. Best Presidential Library I’ve ever viewed - LBJ. Plenty of jobs, reasonable home prices, cultural activities and on and on. Only downside is it is the center for moonbats in Texas but they are vastly out number. Just a novelty item for the locals like when carney shows had a freak show - pay a buck and see a moonbat. Community to check out is San Marcos that is half way between SA and Austin on I-35 and is just a great place that is pocketbook and family friendly. Hill Country can be hot and dry in the summer so take that into consideration. In the winter it is more like our March/April weather. If the beach is your thing you are three hours from the Gulf that puts any Massachusetts beaches to shame.

Real estate taxes are reasonable in Texas and the sales tax is 7.9% on just about anything but no state income tax. Home prices fluctuate considerably within the state but many bedroom communities will give you reverse sticker shock compared to what we get out this way. Texas put us to shame in the manners and being civil department as Texas are really serious when they say “Have a nice day.”

I have a condo in Galveston and had land in Helotes that I sold and an option on land in Pipe Creek outside Bandera that I sold. We had planned on moving to Texas and building a home with the condo as a beach property (don’t ask about that!). I’d still do it in a heartbeat if my wife changes her mind - again. Stay away from El Paso, Dallas area and Houston area.

Your right, Hal, I mock you. . Do not confuse liberal and conservative in this rant as to me it is strictly wingnut/moonbat. I just love the BS that is spewed forth from the ultra liberal mind set that what they read say and do is best for everyone It must be good because you and other moonbats say it is? LOL! Comic relief. Sorry, but when I read CHB that is all I get. When I read your column and the others all I get is a one sided and totally unbalanced view since you and the others have demonstrated you are 100% incapable of presenting a balanced view. Why even waste my time? At my age time is valuable I can spend it on important stuff like a baseball posting board. Try multiple sources including some that may actually challenge you collective entrenched mind set. That is what a true "journalist" would do. As someone pointed out with BB's column with all the first persons it is truly representative of the moonbat mindset - center of the universe. Yeah...I'm not polite but after viewing some of the rants on those that disagree with the far left mindset I have no qualms about flaming. If CHB is "Journalism" or "in-depth analysis" you can keep it.

I have spent a life time sorting through trash like that from the left and the right and have firmly placed it where in belongs in my mind. That section of my brain that is dedicated to useless garbage. With the Times I know exactly what I am getting and can tell you what it is before I even read it. I am really impressed in that they drag in a version of the “House Negro” by planting a few Republicans around their dinner table. I guess that is how they embrace political diversity? LOL! Anyways, the Times Corporation will be belly up in a few years so enjoy it while it lasts. Now, if what I say is "hurtful" to those pitiful out of touch moonbats I could give a s**T and if you want drag in some wingnut and I'll gladly lay him/her out the same way.

Before I went belly-ups with politics several years ago I was getting The American Spectator, National Review, The Liberator, Mother Jones (don’t start) and several others. The only ones today I would even glance at are The Economist and Foreign Affairs. Remember, I was once a high end political junkie with an MA is Public Administration….thankfully, I came to my senses. I still get emails from Cato Institute and Center For American Progress - talk about the ability to tweak data. LOL!

Now back to sane stuff, Hal, and that is a Mac versus PC. Give me a few solid reasons on why I should have a Mac. Is it actually worth the price for limited (now, not mentally) users like myself? I often see software sold that is not available for a Mac. Is that still true?

LMAO! A Bogo A+ rant. Don't worry, Hal, he gets like this all the time as he seems to have a strong dislike for moonbats and wingnuts. LOL! Bogo - were you once a moonbat? A wingnut? LMAO!

Hal, you are an enjoyable writer but I know what I'm getting when I read CHB. I checked it out when you posted it. Just not my politics. As far as the Times/Globe they remind me way too much of JP so I will stick to the Herald.

I have no idea about about the value of a Mac as I have Dell tower and laptop. Both are fine and got a steep discount by buying both. Hal, I'll have to ask you questions when I get jammed up with something and I'm still trying to figure out Dave's Site. Just can't get that link stuff to work. LMAO! Time to check Toxic.

Toxic looks good this morning as everyone is ripping into cfo on jobs and especially "1623."

Hal, this is from CHB. This is just cut and paste in three minutes and it's full of snarky comments and if I went deeper and spent more time I could go into page after page of comments. You folks may pretend your civil and on and on but the truth is it's a one way street. Now, when I read these few paragraphs a light goes on that tells me what I'm about to read. I don't need to connect the dots. If you want I can go to opinion boards all over the place and do the same. Now the thing is I have no problem with that and find some of the stuff "interesting" but I know where it is going. If you read my posts on baseball it's a no brainer where I'm going. As far as reporting news stories I find more and more opinion getting into the hard news stories and the papers you mentioned? All a matter of opinion. Best paper I've seen lately - Sacramento Bee.

"Oops, I forgot. Between bribes, pay-offs, faux news plants, and direct and indirect pressures, the Bush Cabal also had a decent grip on the media. So much for its so-called liberal bias, not when Sunday political talk shows sought out GOP stalking heads 60% or more of the time."

"Joe Lieberman, who used his student and marriage deferments to avoid the draft during the Vietnam War, had a serious case of hero worship with his friend, the macho, crude, blustering former POW John McCain. I think Barack Obama, who came out of the womb self-confident and ready to conquer the world, understands human nature very well."

"First, the growing consensus that massive infrastructure expenditures is one of the best ways to reinvigorate the economy makes immanent sense. We have neglected our public facilities for so many years we are in danger of seeing our systems which once set the standard for the world crumble as we descend to second-world status"

"History was made last night, and the whole world breathed a huge sigh of relief. African nations created new holidays, Europeans greeted America back to the Roll of Civilized Nations, and Asians were seen crying with joy. Russia's Pravda News called it the "welcome end of eight years of hell." You have to hand it to Pravda. They really have our number these days."

"If everything John McCain says in his stump speech and on his website is true, if you think that he's better qualified to be president because he's fought for America and has the scars to prove it, if you think the way he ran his campaign demonstrates character traits you want in a president, if you believe that he has the temperament to handle a crisis, if you accept his views on who's qualified to be on the Supreme Court, and if you are confident about Sarah Palin becoming president if he's not able to serve his full term, of course you should vote for McCain."

"The Obama campaign has generally avoided "turn around is fair play" because they play fair. They've objected to personal attacks against Obama but haven't responded tit for tat."

If I take you computer shopping will I have to buy you lunch?

Hal I have seen all the fine examples of media that you have blessed with you seal of approval and what do they have in common? How about you agree with them most of the time thus, like you, they are firmly in the "We get it" category. All happen to wander quite far to the left from the center and that is no surprise after a quick examination of CHB.

Liberal bias in the press is so obvious it does not even need to be a debated subject. A number of surveys have been conducted through the years where editors and reporters have admitted that they are left of center and the number is not small. The TV outlets tend to be left of center with the exception of Fox so, naturally, that is just some scurrilous reprobate of a network to you and others to the left. The one area in which the conservations hold court in radio. The talk shows that proliferate are mostly conservative. No wonder Nancy Pelosi is looking at The Fairness Doctrine.

I am just a simple blue collar guy but I can spot hypocritical bullshit a mile away and that is exactly what I see in your posts. Your dismissal of anything that may disagree with your mindset is insulting. IMO you come across as a blazing smug elitist in the MR mold. Edit f you want, Bogo.

Rigger...try BS, sheet, s**t and that gets the point across. For elitist like Hal you may use fecal material.

Hal, what I gathered from CHB I paid no attention to the author as I could tell exactly what to expect - much like a yankee fan wandering into my sports site - you know exactly what you get. They were just examples that I pulled off and it is like that all the way through. I don't expect a balanced point of view and expect a slant but when the slant becomes a ninety degree one? When I go onto a posting board and someone defines their position by only posting links that are agreeable I find it intellectually stifling.

I agree with Rigger on his assessment on the press and I also see a significant deterioration at the way stories are presented - opinion seeps in and I blame that totally on an erosion of journalistic standards over the years so maybe what you have listed with CSJ is really defining patient zero. I also agree that a strong division happens with the press and broadcasting (TV) tending to drift left of center to varying degrees and radio in the other direction.

Right now some lobsters are having a quick death at the hands on my daughter so she, her mother and one of my sons can feast on the red bug. I will say nay to that as I prefer shrimp and in this area it tends to be quite overprized and is usually from Asia. Not as tasty as Gulf shrimp. I guess I am a shrimp elitist?

I also received a call today from a local car dealer pleading for me to call my legislator to support a bailout for GM. Right. Right after that I get another call from a Corvette Club I belong to that our meeting this Tuesday is being moved from the Tuscan to the Fireside. Reason? Tuscan is closing this weekend.

Along the economic lines Obama’s economic plan has been proposed and it smacks of a return to New Deal standards. Didn’t work then and I suspect it will not work now. But, like FDR, giving the vestiges of “hope” is the key ingredient and as the economic pictures continues to wane I suspect Americans will become more disillusioned. If Obama had real courage he would not have voted for the bailout and instead applied the 700 Billion to the grandiose infrastructure scheme. Seeing how well the Big Dig worked out I will not hesitate to look into purchasing Bectel and Halburton stock.

Bogo. You have been all over Bush, Frank, Reid and Pelosi and now Obama. WTF would make you happy? Why so negative without even giving it some time?

As far as the papers are concerned I can read Globe or Pravda. No difference.

Hal that is a great picture. Did you take it yourself on time delay? The shadowing is about perfect. I assume you did not use photo shop or the like. Was it taken with our without a flash?

You left out Paulsen and Bernanke. The administration has been lost on this issue for months and it all come to roost with Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns. IMO the fact that short selling on financials was not stopped months ago killed the financial situation by speeding the failure process up. I have been adamant on that issue on posting boards and by the time the shorts were stopped t was too late. With Pelosi and Frank (he is totally clueless in his current role) they did not do their job which was to fill the leadership gap vacated by the administration and instead chose to cover their butts with the bailout bill designed only to reward poor behavior. IMO this was a failure that can be traced back to the Clinton years and has been a mutual love fest - destruction by two administrations and a Congress that has been in wink, wink and nod, nod mode until the roof caved in.

What Obama has proposed is classic trickle down - the stuff the liberals love to castigate but in reality cling to. I certainly am guilty of jumping the gun as Obama has not even gone through his coronation yet but I am a firm pessimist on this. His proposal is nothing new. And any “help” given to the auto beggars is nothing more than protectionism for a special interest group union (UWA) that tossed their support behind him and as far as “monitoring” that is just laughable - how did the “monitoring” work with the bailout money? Right now the Obama supporters can't look any further than his latest hallow platitude since they are having a collective orgasm over the demise of Bush I, II and II. So, I should give him a real shot for a few years but based on what I have seen with today’s pronouncement all I can think of is Charlton Heston in True Lies: “Tell me something I can raise my skirt for.”
