President's Day Post

President’s Day means the flurry of quite possible the most obnoxious advertisements - those that portray Washington and Lincoln in various bizarre “looks” as they are used as pawns to hustle primarily cars but also a variety of other items. IMO it is the absolute height of disrespect for arguably two of the greatest - if not the greatest - figures in our history.

Speaking of a Lincoln I just am amazed at the comments that have been attributed to Charlie Lincoln. The sheer hypocrisy is stunning. The ONLY thing Charlie Lincoln has managed to do is at least get some reforms to the state pension system legislated.

Obama has managed to break a string of campaign promises that continue to grow. The confusion of the number of jobs “created,” openness on health care and earmarks being a standard operating procedure. Right now vulnerable Democrats up for the next election cycle are attempting to distance themselves as much as possible from what is being a failed presidency. IMO he is too much an ideologue to change drastically.

The economy looked like there was some turn around in the works but that has been slammed shut with very negative job reports and mounting debt domestically and it other countries.

Toyota is an embarrassment at this point. The cover up has reached scandalous proportions with apparent cover ups, evasiveness, poor response and what may have been the ultimate 1950s indictment of Japanese products - lack of quality control.

I rarely watch Leno but from what samplings I have perused on his apparent lack of success in his new or job and the ability to be Teflon and toss Conan under the bus - granted - a very expensive bus - I am ready to consign Leno to dirt bag status.

Obama: No taxes on those whose income is under $250,000 (lie). Transparency on health care including hearings on C-SPAN (lie). I will sign no bill with earmarks (lie). We have created 3.2 Million new jobs (lie). I could go on and on but I’m ready to cut bait with this hustler.

Least we forget President WOW’s dope slap at the Supremes on campaign contributions one of WOW’s talking points was the potential of contributions being made by foreign corporations. Well, how about his aunt being an illegal alien who lives off our dime giving $240 to his campaign!

Someone made a post that when slots are allowed and casinos are allowed in Massachusetts it will represent a crushing defeat for the anti casino groups. Could not agree more.

State legislators get federal tax breaks. State legislators holding down full time jobs in addition to their legislative duties. Cushy perks and stipends. Lawrence mayor also a state rep. Charlie Lincoln must be a personal hero to some of these folks. Sad thing is all of it is “legal.”

More Global Warming questionable JP type research. Best one was the melting of Himalayan glaciers by 2035. Should have been 2350 but they kept it at 2035 since it looks better.

Excellent opening commentary.

Obama is abdicating his Presidency to the congress. He is either unwilling or unknowing how to seize any moment after a speech.

The only rational explanation for abdication is that he wants the Democrats to lose their majority in November. That would allow him to run against the Republicans (instead of his own track record) in the next presidential election. I am clearly groping for an answer. David Gergen is even questioning his leadership.

It would be great if Obama could pull a Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan. We need work in this country. Putting food on the table and paying the mortgage comes before any party name-tag. But he just does not have real presidential presence. Charisma has short legs.

I watch FOX who simply spends a good portion of the news day hammering at Obama. Now the simple fact is they are just reporting the obvious and that is his clear inability to be factual. The fact is these are lies and nothing more. The latest is his trial balloon to see about tax increases for the middle class. Amazing!

I tend to disagree with you premise, Suo, but I certainly cannot dismiss it. His staff and close associates seem to be lost and I do mean totally lost. The inconsistencies are startling. This administration is flopping around like a fish tossed on a boat deck and Obama seems to be painfully award that all the rhetoric in the world won't save him at this point.

For the sake of his party and more importantly the nation he has to get it together and be focused. I have little confidence that he is capable.

Global Warming reached comedic levels when Obama arrived at the Copenhagen conference in the middle of a severe snow storm. Even funnier was the scientist who proclaimed all the recent blizzards in the US as proof that Global Warming is upon us. (49 of the 50 states currently have at least a dusting.) Perhaps Clark, CT. has a bigger population than we realized.

Wally Glendye said...

drive-by,
Ken Barlow announced on yesterday's WBZ weather forecast that all 50 states had snow on the ground including a few Volcanoes in Hawaii.

Global Warming???

bogofree said...

I am just amazed that the news outlets have not made a bigger "play" out of the stats and observational evidence that was used by the Global Warming advocates. Is this an indication of a slant? IMHO it is since it goes against the lock step acceptance by those on a mission.

What the Clark type researchers have done is take a legitimate issue and manged to trivialize it over their own desire to use what ever means necessary to make a point. Can you take them seriously after that?

Global Warming is a money making business. The "scientists" and businesses promoting it are like Vince pitching Sham-wow.

****Grogfather part duh??****

What happened? I just went to BB's site (I am his number one fan) and was surprised to see that there were no advertisers. Recall how those Grogfather pictures mysteriously vanished?

I would comment on his windmill dysentery, but what's the point.

bogofree said...

You are correct on how the advertising has vanished! Amazing! Next time we run I'll get to the bottom of this mystery since I am his NUMBER ONE FAN! The problem is BB has no control over advertising content as he has explained and that leaves the hypocrisy an open four lane highway.

The Global Warming advocates have done excessive damage to their cause. Skeptics have got a legitimate reason to pounce and fence sitters and even supports will look at the issue with a negative slant. This is an issue where it is becoming apparent that both the message and the messenger are flawed.

Has Limo closed his site?

Where is shark boy?

oh all the questions!

Wally Glendye said...

Limo is taking a well deserved break from the action.

bogofree said...

I was just ready to post that, Wally, as he is concentrating on his business.

Shark is probably trying to develop some reasonable damage control now that casinos and slots appear a given.

Family Guy said...

Where did his advertising go?

I miss Limo's postings and his exchanges with the vanquished Shark.

Bozo. You have to admit that Palin is certainly not bad to look at. A sexist like myself has to say that the Democrats have some real bow wow's including a Boxer.

drive-by said...

Family Guy:

I agree that Palin is a real looker.....until she opens her mouth. She's the Suzanne Somers of the political world, all fluff, no substance. But even worse than what she says is the high pitched squeal in which she says it. What was McCain thinking? Oh wait, his gaze was never at the level of her eyes. LOL!

Ummm where are they? Thank you to anonymous February 8, 2010 2:27 PM for noticing. But Anon you cannot take any credit, as it is pure coincidence.

We all know you really do read this blog. This may help you with your wind mill debate. Middleboro is unique from most of the state because of our local utility.

https://www.nationalgridus.com/masselectric/faq/faq_result.asp?Code=renewable

Selecting alternative energy is even easier in other states. It is dependent upon the respective states' Dept of Energy (or equivalent)

********************
In our state government (and probably others) the commissioners of the DOE are not elected, they are appointed. Historically, many of those appointed are ex-utility related people (Let your imagination run from there)

The DOE sets the rights to recourse the consumer has with utilities. IMO they are not favorable to the consumer (residential or business.)

On a humorous note:
Take all of the above with a grain of salt. As one BB's favorite pet posters said on his "best forum in town," I need to be educated on energy misconceptions from which I suffer.

Oh yeah...Here is the proof.

This is a very interesting video, a bit dated. The current DOE & DPU (omitted above) use to be called the DTE

http://wbztv.com/video/?id=19851@wbz.dayport.com

Maybe/hopefully the situation is much improved with the current administration and their appointed commissioners. I have no experience with them.

The point is these people are very obscure and very powerful.

It is symptomatic of what is upsetting America. Our rights are being determined and reduced by appointed bureaucrats, with whom we have no recourse.

bogofree said...

Looks like Suo could not resist. LMCAO! The bottom line is he;s forgotten more about energy issues than most of us know.

The Suzanne Sommers of politics! Another line I can steal.

Just got throught with Fireplace Feast at Salem Cross Inn. Great time and well worth it. $52 a person includes wine or cider, a sleigh ride, cheese spread, chowdah, fireplace roasted prime rib, vegtables, oven baked rolls/breads and apple pie. Second and thirds were availabble. Tax and gradtuity included.

I went over to BB's site today to pick a casino to visit. I was disappointed there none from which to chose. Maybe he can recommend one of his sponsors.

BB is all in a snit because SENATOR Brown has no responded to an email inquirery. Good for Brown. BB's position on Brown is clear in a view of the cross pollination moonbat conversation that takes place.

Phil Jones....another top notch Global Warming advocate is now considering the error of his ways.

I always like the idea of a snowball fight in the Olympics.

Now if in the biathlon they shot at each other?

Snowmobile racing would be a great addition to the Olympics. Do it like NASCAR only leave the wrecks on the track.

I'd do the Luge without a sled. Can you see icing up your backside and going down the track.

I'd run the figure skating and speed racing on the same rink at the same time.

Is curling a sport or an athletic event? IMO they are not athletes. too many people are considered athletes when they are just high level sportsmen. Is chain smoking, pass the doughnuts, Tim Herron an athlete? He was once ranked 21st.

Wally Glendye said...

Curling is no different than any other skill GAME like Darts, Billards, Bocce or Shuffleboard. It is not a sport but I can't turn away from the TV each time it's on.

I always remember the great line by former baseball player and now announcer John Kruk when asked by a reporter the difficulties of being a professional athlete. “Lady, I'm not an athlete. I'm a baseball player. “

having to use your lungs should be a requisite.

Charles Barkley disagrees. He said he does not consider Lance Armstrong or Michael Phelps athletes.

Lance Armstrong is one of the greatest athletes of all time. Sometimes people get stuck up in their own sports and ignore what is right in from of them. I do not ride a bike but I can certainly appreciate the machine that Lance has become.

BB is giving out "high level details" on wind mills. HUH?

BTW BB your electric meter can turn backwards and take money off of your bill. I thought that was absolute basic knowledge for people interested in "high level details" of generating electricity.

Linesmen can get hurt/killed by home generators. In the event of a power outage some people hook them directly into their house with out proper breakers (or do not turn off the main breaker) That causes electricity to flow out to the street.

BTW that electricity flows through your electric meter.

Adam Bond has just completed the highlight of his career - a victory in PlowGate. The good news is the 21 who signed on are potential clients but the bad news is there are about 22,000 others in Middleboro who will never be.

Looks like Limo may have sold his site as it is now a casino sales and promotion location.

bogofree said...

I removed the link to LL's site as it is now similar to what BB had on his with his connections to local casinos. I do hope LL continues to post here and elsewhere while he concentrates on business interests.

Along the casino lines there will be - maybe - another impact study. Hopefully the researchers will have a degree of ability, integrity and professionalism that was sorely lacking among some of the local anti's and one in particular.

Adam's "victory" should smooth the way to a Supreme Court annointment.

Health care costs are taking a huge jump. It seems eerily similar to the jump in credit card terms prior to the start of credit card reform.

I wish the Dems and Repubs would actually take some simple steps. But it will not happen since it would require a tabula rasa at the start.

bogofree said...

I have little hope with health care as it seems to me some simple things should be an automatic such as portability and no exclusions. Capping litigation would be another nice step.

bogofree said...

I sent BB a post for his wothless blog and it relates to wind energy.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to go to Palm Springs for a day trip and take a wind farm tour. Much of the area is supplied by wind power but it isn't cheap. The farm is located in a valley to take advantage of sustainable winds.

I also have seen the farm in Arizona and in Texas. I had no idea about the Texas size until I looked it up.

On the tour I took they discussed the need for sustainable winds and the high cost of maintenance. Now the three areas I have mentioned are very dry and I cannot imagine what it would be like locating one in a bay. I know how maintenance is continuous on large items such as bridges when exposed to a salt water environment. The cost of a wind generator is excessive and that may take decades to not only reduce costs but return on investment.

Underdog American Hockey team trounces Canada 5-3. Wow, that was unexpected. Interesting to watch NHL comrades playing against each other. They may meet yet again on the ice before the games are over. But I have to admit I would hate to see the hosting Canadians lose in the one sport that means most to them.

Now, will Apollo Ohno top his own record with two more possible medals? That guy's a speed skating wizard.

Yes, I admit it. I'm an Olympic Games couch potato. Though I did have to drag myself out long enough to take the kids to see "Avatar". Amazing special effects, but otherwise not my brand of movie. What you suffer through for your kids! LOL

DB back in the early 60s I skated out of a rink in Weymouth. Played a lot of hockey and the real big plus I had was the ability to move real quick on skates. They had a skating club that used speed skates and I thought this would be perfect for me. I'd been skating since age three so I bought a pair. Skated around a bit to get use to them and then had some instruction from some of the skating club members. Now these were folks who had actually made a name for themselves nationally so I was going to get top of the line care. This would be real easy. Man did I suck! I just could not manage. You had to be very disciplined and I was not. I'd rush into corners, try to pass when no lane was open and continually fall on my butt when taking a turn and bringing down others in the process. The thing to understand is those blades are sharp - very sharp. One wrong move and you can do some serious damage. After a few weeks one of them finally said for me to give it up before I killed someone or myself.

Thanks for the update drive-by. I can now be conversant with my Canadian second-cousins. Hokey has never been my thing. But it is probably the best game out there, fast and contact. Hockey players would kick the crap out of the curlers on or off the ice.

I am getting some real funny anonymous suggestions mailed to me for the Green School Color. Keep the letters coming. I am saving them. I appreciate the effort of actually writing and mailing stuff! My wife and I are getting some real laughs.

I will have to take the time one of these days to type out what the anonymous person(s) have said.

Jane got me good on the cover the Gazette a couple of weeks ago. We all have to enjoy this stuff and step back and laugh at ourselves with perspective. Too many people take themselves wayyyy tooo seriously.

BTW the latest color suggestion was fuchsia LMCAO. Is that thesourauous color?
