Just Some Mindless Thoughts

The lineup continues for Kennedy’s seat - senator for life I don’t think the intent of the Founding Fathers had that in mind. Curt Shilling will possibly give it a try and that is great since we’ve already had a frustrated jock from Alaska in the national picture. I’d vote for either Andrew Card or Scott Brown.

Why do politicians always say they will “fight” for me? I’m all for it as just toss them in the ring for a UFC battle. Maybe they can battle each other? That Coakley looks like she could take out the guys with ease.

Why do car dealers put those stupid flags on the antenna’s of the crap they are trying to unload? Totally dumb looking.

And along those lines I love it when a dealer says “If we don’t beat their price you get the car free!” Other businesses use this same ploy and it is beyond dumb as far as a marketing scheme. Car dealers that do this usually double sticker.

Be aware if you are using air miles that airlines now you a tier system for awards. Try to book several months ahead of time or a trip can really cost some miles.

I had an economic professor who said if there was confusing economic data then there is no recovery. How true right now.

WOW has disappointed me in the nine short months he has “Been the man.” I see confusion, mixed messages and an inability to get back the charisma. Right now if an election was held the Democrats would lose a considerable number of seats in Congress but that is a long way away. Also - Mr. President - get the __________ (fill in blank) out of Afghanistan!

I just love the garbage that is being handed out to WOW over his speech to the kiddos. To listen to some of the assorted wing nuts you would think this is Joseph Goebbels. Give it a rest.

I imagine there are certain people in Middleboro that consider the movie “Ghost Busters” a true story.

Affordable health care for those uninsured means taking more of my tax dollars to supplement that campaign promise. Will it also potentially weaken my health care? Based on past government performance I’ll get hosed.

Americans are reducing debt at a record pace and that is good personal news but lousy economic news. Need to spend…spend…spend on all those things we could easily do without to pump up the retail outlook.

I'm not thrilled when you get into national politics because I refuse to debate your cadre of dyed in the wool Republicans here. I get frustrated enough trying to open the minds and hearts of the equally intelligent posters on my Capitol Hill Blue columns.

I do have strong opinions on one topic you raised. That's how many people, despite all scientific evidence to the contrary, still believe there's a ghost in Middleboro Town Hall.

If there were such things as ghosts it would be possible. But there are no such things.

Although most people believe in ghosts doesn't make them real.

There was a time when most people believe the earth was flat.

Open up minds and hearts to your point of view? I get the impression if someone disagrees with you on politics they must be an evil Republican? Come on, Hal. Democrats pound each other more than they pound the Republicans.

But I hear you on the ghost hunters. Amazing that they have crap like this on TV with whole shows dedicated to it.

No disrespect anonymus 9:58SAM, but I won't debate national politics here unless it effects or relates to Middleboro.

For example, I'd discuss the strange bedfellows of Steve McKinnon who is not only proudly takes a stand against illegal aliens, but if I wasn't seeing things the other day, now flys a yellow rattlesnake "don't tread on me" flag from his car.

On the ghost hunters, one thing that dismayed me was that not one of our science teachers wrote to The Gazette suggesting that readers should be skeptical of such phantasmagorical claims and use rigorous scientific method to evaluate them.

Photographed orbs, tape recorded rumblings, temperature changes in a large drafty room and "I saw a ghost" stories ... you don't need Occam's razor to cut these claims to shreds.

I also object to the media allowing a group of a few people to simply name themselves an institute and treat it as if it's anything more than some superstitious true-believers with some inexpensive over-the-counter electronic equipment trying to give themselves credibility.

Hal

You have been around long enough to know this is a conservative town so they will generally be to the right of most issues you bring up. Where the battle is always fought is the great middle of the political body and not the far right or left. We see that on health care and a myriad of other issues.

I occasionally post on CHB and can understand your reluctance to get into a local tong war when you have a site that can provide that to you to the nth degree and on a virtually international scale. I'm jealous!

What did Will Rogers say? "I don't belong to an organized political party - I'm a Democrat?" Or something like that.

Anyone is welcome to make political comments as we do it on a local scale ad nauseam.

The ghost story is just too much. Color me a high level skeptic or better yet just a total non believer. In a bit I am going for a nice run in Wareham. Have not been to this area since the aliens landed and did a few abductions. Of course, I use to be wary of Big Foot until I gave him some left over marshmallows from Brian’s roast. We are now fast friends.

Typos! Think I got them all.

Limo had a nice post about the animal rescue situation and I just recieved an email from a friend in AZ that talks about the controversial Sheriff Joe Arpaio who love him or hate him seems to have hit a home run with this one.

Maricopa County was spending approx. $18 million dollars a year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over, and the County Supervisors said okay.

The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by prisoners. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who'd like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dogs off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows.

The best part? His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million. Teresa and I adopted a Weimaraner from a Maricopa County shelter two years ago. He was neutered, and current on all shots, in great health, and even had a microchip inserted the day we got him. Cost us $78.

The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most would work for free, just to be out of their cells for the day. Most of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals.

Hal Brown said...

Convicts who aren't sociopaths with the typical childhood history of torturing animals can really benefit from working with animals. I think I read of another program where this is done training dogs so some kind of service work.

The old fashioned prison farm, like the one in Bridgewater that closed, and the Sheriff Dept's horticulture program are examples of programs where prisoners can both be productive and gat some rehab.

What judgment? The thing was a risk and that risk is now obvious. Maybe they'll get it on the road and it will run for 20 years, but if I was a firefighter I'd be concerned every time I got on that truck. Doubt if you will see any backtracking by you know who since her opinions are infallible.

Found out something interesting about Foxwoods yesterday. I have played at Twin rivers and won $1500.00 I had to go to a window where they took State taxes right out of the winnings.

Yesterday at Foxwoods I hit something and the machine spit out a ticket to bring me below a certain point. when I cashed out I had 2 tickets and the machine paid both of them. :)

No wonder no one wants to play at Twin Rivers not only does a machine usally take you but when you do win the State is going to take you also.

Little to say I like Foxwoods better.

How about joining the ranks of us, the "yokel uninformed numbskulls," and take some REAL action -- go pick up the trash.

Gambling winnings are taxable income that can be offset by gambling losses. You will have to pay federal taxes on your $1,500 and I thought that was also taken out when you cashed out. I thought it was 30%? I also think the break point is $600 in winnings. Anything above that figure they withhold.

Now what you do is save all your scratch tickets and go through rubbish bins and parking lots for losing tickets to offset that $1,500.

Suo will be along with the defibulator. He'll probably be in front of us tossing soda cans and candy wrappers on the ground so BB can do some bending exercises. BB sent me the link to the first blog on the running and I’ll have to post the link here as this is just a fun thing - no politics, casinos, or endless BB trashing that I manage to do. I can get away with tossing out the insults on a run since he is huffing and puffing to hard to respond. As long as I don’t have to do mouth to mouth.

Anyone who wishes to join us for a run are certainly welcome - if you can go at a 5:30 pace per mile.

I went to a private school until they tossed me out so I hate dress codes. But as a former teacher I love the idea of them. In Bermuda a few years ago we took a bus back to the hotel and kids were getting on and they all had on school uniforms with each school having its own design. Quite impressive.

The Globe finally picked up on Foxwoods? The Herald financial section had that story weeks ago. Globe use to be top of the line on financial info and now I don't even bother. Newspapers have really cut back in that area.

***BB Be Part Of THE SOLUTION***

Somehow he will manage to blame the problem on everyone else.

Well...OK....maybe the stick is for the dogs that try to relieve themselves on the side of my leg. But Ms. Bogo (The Lovely Cynthia) says I one of a kind and then she starts to laugh. Don't know if that is good or bad?

Four up in the Wild Card race so the Sox are looking good for the post season. Tampa Bay is now out of it thanks to 11 game losing streak. Martinez has been a spectacular addition to the Sox lineup as Sox are second in the league in home runs, batting average and runs since Vmart joined the team. The management may have made the right call on Buchholz who appears to have solidified the rotation with his recent performances.

Check out this stupid comment made on the best blog in town with regards to my comment that people were upset when previous small schools were auctioned of for next to nothing:

"So many people where concerned about previous schools being auctioned off for next to nothing."

Wasn't that while you know who was on the board?

Brilliant comment!! Another Home Run hit in the Town of Clark.

They were auctioned off long before I was on the BOS. The person must be living in a time warp. They can call me any time and just ask me about any action I took while an elected official 508-947-7071.

My telephone number has to be the most publicized in town by now.

I am devastated Limo! I may have to hide all sharp objects but that email was certainly not representative of a sharp object. The sad part is that's the way they really write! At least they spelled Bozo correct and they can always view the Bozo Criminal Of The Day on the sidebar and check on their relatives.

I'm sure what is next by the flimsy "Anonymous" will be a rendition of all of Suo's shortfalls while on the Planning Board. Didn’t Jessie make a fool of herself with that one on Nemasket?

Quote from anonymous.. On BB blog.

"I yelled at a young girl in the center of town"

Anonymous did the Girl or her mother knock you out?

Sounds like a stalker, Limo. Anonymous seems to feel Suo is obsessed witth BB. Looks like anonymous has some significant issues. Hal will build up his client base.

Limo

The only yard work my wife will trust me to do is pick up the dog crap. I have a little shovel and a bucket and do it a few times a week. Now I thought this would bother me but it doesn't. Why I wondered? Then the light went on for as some commentors say Bozo is a wee bit slow on the uptake. Why the answer is quite simple - blogs! Of course my blog is excluded but the rest? Great preparation for picking up crap. I'm really good at it and in fact I no longer consider myself a third rate dips**t but a first rate dips**T. So, Limo, you have that big mutt. You have a nice BBQ. I have a shovel and pail. A real good trade off.

My husband and I work. We work full time jobs and he works a part time job. We have kids in school, a home to pay for, medical insurance to pay for, car, crazy taxes and everything else.

I'm at the bus stop waiting for the bus to pick up my kids and hear these two ladies talking. They are talking about their Mass Health that they get for free and how they just got a clothing allowance for their kids and one is looking for a larger apartment.

I have had it with paying to support other people and their children. I have had it with my tax dollars being sucked away for people like I had to listen to. After the kids are gone they were talking about which TV shows to watch. Here is what I'll watch. Customers while I get my $10 an hour.

If Obama ever gives health insurance to illegal aliens that will be the very last straw for this taxpayer.
